According to Automotive Manufacturers and Importers Association (APIA), 11,074 Ford EcoSports were manufactured at the Craiova plant in January, the best month ever recorded so far, exceeding the production of the Oltcit and Daewoo era, capital.ro informs, quoting mediafax.ro.
More precisely, the increase was over 200 percent in the first month of the year compared to the same period last year, when the old B-Max was in production.
However, the Craiova plant has a production capacity of 300,000 units per year, but Ford never reached even half of the maximum capacity.
The production volume in Craiova shows an average cadence of over 500 passenger cars, a cadence that started in January with 500 and ended at 600. Moreover, both in January and February, the plant also produced in the weekend to meet orders, according to the quoted source.
If U.S. carmaker keeps this production pace by the year-end, at least 130,000 cars worth EUR 2 billion will be produced in Craiova in 2018. If the engines produced are also added to this value, then Ford could end the year as Romania’s second largest exporter after Dacia.
The EcoSport ’made in Craiova’ is sold in Europe, excepting Russia. The first 600 Ford EcoSport units produced in Craiova were loaded into trains with destinations in the UK and Germany. In January, Ford Romania exported 11,457 cars.
