Gas imports, down by 80 pc after seven months

Romania has imported in the first seven months of 2015 an amount of usable natural gas of 66,900 tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), by 79.5 percent (259,300 toe) lower than the quantity imported in the same period in 2014, according to recent data centralized by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

At end-July 2015, the domestic production of natural gas has exceeded over 5 million toe, by 62,800 toe (1.2 percent) lower than during January-July 2014.

According to INS, the usable natural gas imports amounted in 2014 to 447,400 tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), by 61.5 percent (714,100 toe) lower than those of 2013.

The domestic production of natural gas totalled over 8.675 million toe, by 73.900 toe (0.9 percent) higher than the one reported in the previous year.

The Energy Strategy of Romania for 2015 – 2035 reads that Romania has the largest reserves of natural gas in Central and Eastern Europe, with proved reserves of 1,600 TWh.
