At end-June, Romania reported 222,400 tonnes of usable natural gas of oil equivalent (toe), up by 231.4 percent (155,300 toe) than the quantity imported during the same period in 2015, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Domestic output of natural gas surpassed in the first six months of 2016, the level of 3.80 million toe, by 493,600 toe (11.3 percent) less than during January-June 2015.

Romania’s Draft Energy Strategy for 2015-2035, published on the ministry’s website, reveals that Romania has the largest reserves of natural gas in Central and Eastern Europe, with proven reserves of approximately 1,600 TWh.

Natural gas imports will be 20 percent cheaper than domestic stocks this winter, Regulatory Authority for Energy (ANRE) President Niculae Havrilet said recently.
