German giant Continental marks 10 years of activity in Iasi

This year, Continental AG, the leading German automotive manufacturing, celebrates 10 years of presence in eastern Romania, in Iasi, a press release informs on Thursday.

“Colleagues from Iasi manage to combine technical knowledge with creativity and develop complex projects such as hybrid cars and automated driving. Precisely these projects recommend the company as a progressive and attractive employer. This year, Continental will grow by about 1,000 people in Romania. Nationally, the investments amount to approximately EUR 160 million this year,” Christian von Albrichsfeld, General Manager of Continental Romania said.

Continental Iasi 10th anniversaryContinental increased in Iasi, from 30 people in 2006 to more than 1,400 employees at present.

“The collaboration with universities, through the programs developed for students and graduates, is a key pillar of the company’s development in Iasi. Around EUR 7 million is the amount invested by Continental in various projects in Iasi (…),” Marian Petrescu, manager of Continental Iasi unit commented in his turn.

Continental’s Research and Development (R&D) Center in Iasi includes Chassis & Safety, Interior and Powertrain divisions. The company invested EUR 38 million in the 10 years of activity in Iasi.

During 1999-2015, the German automotive manufacturer invested EUR 1.13 billion in activities in Romania. All 5 Continental divisions are represented in Romania. Continental has 7 production plants and four research and development centres in Timisoara, Carei, Nadab, Brasov and Iasi.

Continental is partner in joint venture in Slatina and has a tire distribution centre in Bucharest. At the end of 2015, the company had approximately 16,500 employees, and will increase its team by over 1,000 new members in Romania in 2016.
