The companies Continental, Bosch and NXP Semiconductors Romania signed, in the presence of Prime Minister Ciolacu, with the Ministers of Economy and European Projects, Radu Oprea and Adrian Câciu, financing contracts, supported by PNRR, for the development of microelectronics in Romania.

The total budget of the projects amounts to 195.63 million euros. The contracts signed with the direct participants within the call for projects of Component 9 “Support for the Private Sector, Research, Development and Innovation”, Investment 4 “Cross-border and multinational projects – low-power processors and semiconductor chips”:

  • Continental Automotive Romania SRL – Energy-efficient intelligent translators for car systems – innovation along the value chain – 74.8 million
  • Euros Robert Bosch SRL – Eurodrives – European value chain of microelectronics for highly automated driving and green mobility – 34.31 million euros;
  • NXP Semiconductors Romania SRL – Senthicom: development of an integrated system System on a Chip – 86.52 million euros.

Christian Albrichsfeld, Country Head Romania, General Manager, R&D Head – Continental Automotive Romania, Mihai Boldijar, Director General – Robert Bosch, Simona Almăjan, Country Manager – NXP Semiconductors signed on behalf of the selected companies.

Prime Minister Ciolacu showed that these projects will help Romania develop skills in the design and manufacture of microelectronic components and systems and will then allow it to accelerate the application of advanced technologies in vital areas of the national economy, such as the automotive industry.

The Romanian PM also said that taking into account the share of the automotive industry in GDP of about 13%, and its relevance for the national economy, these projects that bring together microelectronics and the automotive industry can have considerable economic multiplier effects.

“They support the development of the semiconductor ecosystem in Romania with two essential elements. Human resource and development skills. We have carefully read and seen what an incredible list of technological innovations these projects bring and have chosen examples from each one. Augmented reality laser for car display projections. A new concept for the future braking system, all through advanced electronic mechanisms. Electronic platform for automated driving, development of revolutionary products in the field of digital radar, plus new technologies with chips, processors and algorithms”, Ciolacu pointed out.

The projects will also be signed with the indirect participants and research partners for the selected companies, respectively Politehnica din Bucharest, Școala Tehnića din Cluj-Napoca and Politehnica din Timișoara.
