The first direct flight from Bucharest to the United States of America is operated on Friday by the HiSky company, from Henri Coandă International Airport, after more than 20 years. However, the flight to New York took off with a delay of 38 minutes, according to data from the Otopeni Airport website.
The HiSky aircraft, Airbus A330-200, the first wide-body aircraft in the company’s fleet and the only one of this type registered in Romania, is scheduled to take off at 08:30, for a 10-hour flight, with the destination New York – JFK .
Regular flights connecting Henri Coandă airport with the main airport in New York, John F. Kennedy, will be carried out with four frequencies per week, departing from Romania every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and return, the air operator announced at the end of last year, after receiving from the US Department of Transportation the authorization to carry out regular flights to this destination.
HiSky has become the only Romanian company that holds, at the same time, the Foreign Air Transport Operator’s Permit and an aircraft that gives it the ability for non-stop flights of up to 14 hours.
