Iconic Lido Hotel in Bucharest is back to life; to be reopened this fall

Lido Hotel, Bucharest landmark since the interwar period, cutting-edge sophistication of fashionable life with the only wave swimming pool in Romania and even in Europe, but closed in 2010 after being taken over by builder’s heirs, will be reopened this autumn, profit.ro informs.

The hotel on Magheru Avenue was taken over by Lebanese businessman Mohammad Murad, the biggest investor in Romanian tourism, which wants to affiliate it at Donald Trump’s hotel chain.

He rented the hotel from its owners for 15 years, with an option to purchase, and prepare an investment of over EUR 5 million in refurbishment works to reopen the hotel as soon.

“I want to bring it back to its days of glory. (…) I want to put it back on Bucharest’s tourist map,” Mohammad Murad said.

The renovations of the hotel with 119 rooms called Lido by Phoenicia will start in a few weeks and will be a 4-star+ unit. The businessman said that the hotel will have a special vintage image, “a little bit retro.”

The hotel is centrally located close to all the tourist attractions of Romanian capital, only minutes away from Museum of History of the Jewish Community, Bucharest National Opera House and Unirii Square, as well as University Square and Palace of Parliament.

Lido Hotel is an historical building dating from the early 20^th century, designed by Architect Ernst Doneaud and completed in 1930.
