The number of new car registrations rose by almost 15 percent in the first eight months of the year to 58,631 units compared with the same period of the previous year, when 51,087 units were recorded, according to the Directorate for Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registration (DRPCIV).
15,780 new vehicles were registered in Romania in August, representing an increase of 57.12 percent compared to the same month of 2015. In the period under review, 12,411 cars were registered, equivalent to a jump of 68.58 percent compared to August 2015.
According to DRPCIV data, most registrations were recorded by Dacia (4,175 units, + 70.41 percent y-o-y), Volkswagen (1,118 units, + 37.35 percent), Skoda (974 units, + 53.39 percent), Renault (896 units, + 109.84 percent) and Ford (851 units, + 76.49 percent).
On the other hand, the lowest registrations frequency were recorded by Subaru (6 units), Ford-CNG-Technik and SsangYong (5 units each), Bentley (3), Alfa Romeo and Maserati (2 units each), Mercedes-AMG and Tesla Motors (1 unit).
On vehicles types, the biggest increase in registrations in August was recorded by trailers (326 units, + 72.49 percent), while buses and minibuses category recorded the largest decrease of 73.43 percent (110 units) from the same period in 2015.
