International MVNO Lycamobile launched in Romania
Mobile virtual network operator Lycamobile launched operations in Romania, which thus became the 18th market in the company’s international network.
International calls are available for Romanians for 1 eurocent per minute, through pre paid SIM cards.
According to a company’s press release quoting data provided by the Romanian Government, around 6-8 million Romanians are living abroad, with 3.7 percent of them residing in the other 17 countries covered by the Lycamobile network.
Prepaid mobile services seem to have a traditional increased trend in Romania. There are 12.9 million people in Romania who are using pre paid cards, compared to 9.4 million subscription users.
Lycamobile is offering data and voice services to 12 million clients in 18 countries (Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Great Britain and USA). The company was set up in 2006 and registered a EUR 1.5 billion turnover last year. It also targets expanding its users by 25 percent worldwide in the next year.
