The European Commission has informed the Transport Ministry that it will fund the subway line project to the Henri Coanda International Airport (M6 between May 1 Square and Otopeni).

“Negotiations are ongoing regarding the maximum level of grant funds to be allotted by the Operational Programme Large Infrastructure,” the Ministry of Transportation informs, quoted by hotnews.ro.

The overall value of the project is of about EUR 1.4 billion.

The ministry also informs that the level of funds from the European Commission depends on the talks between the Romanian authorities, the European Commission and the International Cooperation Agency of Japan.

The M6 subway line will be 14.2 km long and will have 12 stations to connect Bucharest to Otopeni, and respectively the North Railway station to Henri Coanda Airport.

The total value of the project is estimated at EUR 1,391,634,272, to be co-financed by a loan from the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation, as well as by funds from the state budget.
