Israel-based RR Media acquires Romania’s provider of Eurosport, AXN, Paramount, VH1 channels

Israel-based RR Media, a provider of global digital media services to the broadcast industry has recently acquired Eastern Space Systems (ESS) in Romania, a privately held provider of content management and distribution services and related consulting services.

“This acquisition is part of our continued strategy to accelerate growth, create scale and enhance our geographic presence,” CEO of RR Media Avi Cohen said in the statement.

Thus, RR Media will take over the day-to-day operations, providing extensive customer service, engineering, technological expertise and sales support to all existing ESS Romania customers including Eurosport, AXN, Paramount, MTV, VH1 and others. All will be offered extension to their current business with full access to RR Media’s media services platform with the capability to provide a wide range of digital media products.

As a result of this acquisition, RR Media expects to generate approximately USD 7 million of incremental revenue from the central Europe region during 2016. ESS is expected to be accretive to RR Media’s earnings within six months.

The deal provides RR Media with added satellite coverage on Intelsat 1°W, offering one of the fastest-growing platforms for digital media delivery, reaching more than 17 million TV households in Central, Eastern and Nordic Europe, the company said in a statement.

I started my way in life with the intention to pursue a teaching career. But, after graduating from the Faculty of Letters – the University of Bucharest in 2004, my first job as a reporter at one of the leading newspapers in Romania changed my perspective. I have specialized in communication and communication campaigns, following the Master's courses at the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies (FJSC), attending a BBC Communications scholarship.
I’ve represented several important publications in Romania as business journalist, being accredited in the finance and banking field. In 2015, I had the opportunity to interview the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission Chief for Romania, Andrea Schaechter. As business journalist, I also had the opportunity to interview ministers for Economics and Commercial
Affairs offices within different embassies in Romania or officials of large companies investing on the domestic market.
After almost 15 years of journalism, I still want to explore new ways, to inform and stay updated. That’s why The Romania Journal project fits me so well.
Today I describe myself as a passionate about the history of world culture, having a PhD in Hebrew Culture and Civilization, after a scholarship at the University of Haifa International School, as a language addict, an environmental activist, pet lover and traveler.
