Mega Image, part of Belgian Delhaize Group, will continue to expand in the next two years at the same pace as in the recent years, with investments of about EUR 50 million per year, Vassilis Stavrou, COO of Mega Image announced on Friday in a press conference.

According to him, more important than the number of new stores is the total area of retail space opened each year.

In coming years, the retailer will continue to expand in Romania in areas where it’s already present, namely in Bucharest, Ilfov, Brasov, Constanta, Dambovita, Giurgiu, Ialomita and Prahova. The company also is going to launch this year the new logistics center in Stefanesti, near Bucharest, which will cover about 34,000 square meters, similar to the first retailer’s center at Popesti – Leordeni.

„It’s an investment of EUR 22 million and the center will be opened at the end of the third quarter of this year,” Stavrou said.

Regarding the possibility of an acquisition in the local market, Stavrou said that Mega Image is open to any opportunities, but sees no such a situation on the market at the moment.
