Microsoft Cloud technology is at the basis of the recently signed contract between Vodafone and the Government of Romania. The purpose of this collaboration is to digitize Romania’s public sector to facilitate citizens’ access to documents from wherever they are, safely. This step facilitates the opening of the Romanian public sector to Cloud infrastructure and marks an important moment for Microsoft Romania, as a reliable ally for the digital transformation of the Romanian state.
The initiative of a dedicated government cloud is part of Romania’s strategy to modernize the public sector, with the aim of increasing resilience, responsiveness and preparation for future challenges.
By adopting cloud technology, the project aims to optimize government processes, reduce expenses and create a more flexible and interconnected public service ecosystem.
“Together with ADR, Vodafone, Crayon and other partners, Microsoft is building the first government-wide hybrid cloud solution. This transformative project represents a significant step towards the modernization of the Romanian state, moving from on-prem infrastructure to the adoption of the cloud through Microsoft Azure technology.
Romanian citizens will be able to have concrete benefits from this contract, consisting of direct access to public services, as well as requesting and receiving documents online. Romanians will be able to request and receive documents from anywhere, anytime, this process facilitating their access to a history of interactions with public services, in addition to numerous other benefits,” said a press release.
Microsoft Azure technology allows both to improve the operational capacity of public sector services and to ensure high standards of cyber security.
“This is one of Microsoft’s most significant hybrid cloud deployments in the CEE region and one of the largest ongoing projects in Europe in the public sector. The strategic importance of this project is enormous both for Romania and for Microsoft. By participating in this project, we strengthened our presence in the Romanian government sector and demonstrated our capabilities to deliver innovative solutions to meet the unique needs of our clients. This achievement opens up significant additional opportunities for Microsoft in the public sector,” said Bogdan Putinică, General Manager, Microsoft Central Europe EurA.
