Most companies’ sub-groups in Romania are controlled from Germany, France and Italy – statistics

A number of 73,663 business groups have been identified in Romania in 2015, and 68,194 of them are multinationals, according to a press release issued on Friday by the National Statistics Institute (INS) regarding business.

By number of employees, most sub-groups of companies in Romania are controlled from Germany, France and Italy.

In 2015, out of the total number of foreign multinational enterprises in Romania, 14,723 are controlled by foreign legal persons and 53,319 are controlled groups of foreign natural persons.

By number of employees, the sub-groups of enterprises controlled by legal entities or natural persons from Germany (18%) rank first, the second are the ones controlled from France (10.5%) and third are ones controlled from Italy (10.5%).

The sub-groups of enterprises controlled from Germany are mostly present in manufacturing (9.1%), wholesale and retail trade (2.6%), financial intermediation and insurance (1.8%) and agriculture (1.1%).

Those controlled from France are in manufacturing (4%) and in trade (3.2%) whereas the ones controlled from Italy are operating mainly in manufacturing (6.6%).

According to the INS, of the total number of enterprise groups (73,663), 5,469 (9%) were resident.

Residential business groups mainly operate in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles – 20%, other service activities – 17%, professional, scientific and technical activities – 12%, manufacturing – 10% and constructions – 10% .

In 2015, 34% of all enterprise groups were active in the wholesale and retail sector, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, 11% in constructions, 11% in manufacturing, 9% in professional, scientific and technical activities, and 8 % in real estate transactions.
