Dutch Join Airlines informed it would enter the Romanian market with four flights operated from Arad, with three of them on international routes and other three being assigned to the domestic flights.

President of Join Airlines Bernard Jacobs and manager of the Arad International Airport Dan Bălăcel signed the operating contract on Wednesday.

Bernard Jacobs said several market researches have been conducted on the airline’s expansion, arguing “the aviation’s development in the Balkans is prefigured.” Jacobs also said that new routes would be added, in an attempt to counter the competition vied by the airport in Timișoara.

Two of the routes have been set: Arad-Stuttgart and Arad-Verona, while the internal route Arad-Bucharest is in sight. The airline company also eyes launching new flights from Suceava and Tulcea.

According to Bernard Jacobs, Join Airlines is not a low-cost company, but he pledged the “ticket prices will be attractive”. He added the flights would be launched most probably in June. Moreover, the modernization of the Arad airport is expected to be concluded by March 31.

No passenger flights have been operating on Arad International airport since the spring of last year when Wizz Air withdrew. It used to operate the Arad-Milan flight.
