New car market up 7% in 2022, used car import down 20%

Last year, almost 130,000 new cars were registered in the country, a 7% increase compared to 2021, and the market for second-hand imported cars decreased by 20%, to 316,000 cars, according to an ACAROM information. If in 2021 the ratio of new cars to SH cars was 1 to 3.2, in 2022 the ratio was 1 to 2.4.

Overall  in 2022, new car registrations reached the value of 129,328 units, increasing by 6.7% compared to 2021, respectively 121,208 units

New car registrations in Romania increased in December 2022 by 5% compared to December 2021, reaching a volume of 12,437 units. Dacia was the clear leader in the market, with almost 40,000 units, and Toyota reached 10,200. Hyundai was third, with more than 9,500 cars. Four brands passed 8,000 cars each: Skoda, Ford, Renault and Volkswagen.

Regarding second-hand cars registered for the first time in Romania, their volume reached 22,413 units in December 2022, an 18% decrease compared to December 2021.

Overall, in 2022, the number of cars registered for the first time in Romania was 316,332 units, down 20% compared to 2021, respectively 395,759 units.
