Newly established foreign-owned companies fell by over 15 pc in Q1

The number of newly established companies with foreign capital in the first quarter of 2016 decreased by 15.2 percent compared to the same period last year, to 1,327, according to the data recently released by the National Trade Register Office (ONRC).

The total value of the share capital of these 1,327 new companies stood at USD 9.05 million.

At end-March, the companies with foreign participation in the capital in Romania was 205,793, the total value of the share capital being of over EUR 43.2 billion.

According to ONRC, in 2015, Romania recorded the lowest number of newly established companies with foreign capital in the last 18 years.

The downward trend has been noted since the beginning of the year, there being over 200,000 companies with foreign capital operating in Romania in January 2016. The value of the subscribed capital was over EUR 42.8 billion in the first month of this year, being registered 350 new companies, down by 25.21 percent compared to the same month of 2015.

204,466 companies with foreign capital were founded in 1991 – 2015 period, the total subscribed share capital being of over EUR 42.8 billion, construction firms were predominant.

Of these, 41,749 firms have Italian capital, but the share capital with the highest value is recorded by Dutch companies, namely EUR 8.4 billion, although it’s about 4,600 companies.
