In the context of the latest cyber-attacks waves, a world crisis with impact on Romania is not excluded, National Bank Governor Mugur Isarescu said on Friday during a conference on cyber security.

“We should be aware that, in the context of the latest cyber-attacks waves, as many people talk about an ongoing cyber war in some parts of the world, a world crisis is not excluded, but it is hard to anticipate, to forecast, to predict it, with impact on our country,” Isarescu said, according to realitatea.net.

The BNR Governor added that the prevention and adequate security against cyber-attacks are no longer an option, but a necessity. Specialists say we should speed up adaptation to the new realities, in Romania there is the risk of reduced resilience for our systems, along with the capacity of public and private institutions to act intelligently and to mirror the national interests at international level.

“The cyber infrastructures should be protected today more than ever, given that operational risks in the cyber space are increasingly higher. Over 90% of the economic and business operations of various organisations depend on IT devices. Their reliability and security are essential for the economic and social life and mainly for the functioning of the domestic market,” Isarescu said.
