In the first half of 2018 the new cars market reached the highest level of the past nine years, up by 33%, an Autovit.ro analysis on the figures privided by the Directorate for Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registration Regime (DRPCIV) reveals.
The second-hand cars market grew by 7% against the same period last year, but the number of car registrations was four times higher than the new car registrations. Re-registrations grew by 10%, one of the highest levels being in May (53,000 units).
The new cars market reached 60,000 units in the first half of the year. In April less than 8,000 cars were registered, in June the number of registrations increased to 12,000.
The early start of the scrap-car programme, as compared to previous years, has increased the interest for new cars and, by the end of the year, new cars sales might reach 15% of total registrations – 120,000 units.
The number of second-hand car registration in H1 was by almost four times higher than the new cars with small variations (41,500 units in March and 36,500 units in April).
The imported second-hand car market might not reach half million units this year, but it could be compensated by the domestic transactions, the same source informs.
