The companies selling foodstuff of different quality in the European countries will pay fines of up to 4% of the turnover, European Commissioner for Consumer Protection Vera Jourova said in Bucharest.
She confessed she has experienced the double standard by herself, TVR 1 public television informs.
“I feel cheated when I return to my country and buy yogurt with chemicals instead of strawberries. We will ban the double standard of the products,” Jourova said.
In order to put an end to such double standard practices, the European authorities have set new rules. After the adoption of the ‘Omnibus’ Directive, likely in April, the producers have to inform the consumers is their products have the same quality in all European countries. For promotions, the companies need to reveal the initial price besides the percentage of discount. The online shops will have to post only the reviews from consumers, the ones written by employees are to be banned.
