Craiova southern ring road – inaugurated on Tuesday
Craiova southern ring road connecting DN65 and DN6 national roads has been opened for traffic Tuesday morning. The new road has one lane in each direction on a length of 6.3 kilometres, involving costs of about EUR 8 million. The project started in 2012 but was blocked when cracks and other problems of execution have appeared. The project was unblocked this year when the last works were completed before the opening, hotnews.ro reports.
The southern belt includes an overpass with an opening of 227 metres, 11 bridges and eight small bridges for agricultural roads. The road’s costs amount to about RON 36 million (without VAT) having as main source of funding the European Regional Development Fund.
The execution contract was signed in May 2012 by the association S.E.C.O.L. – Societa Edile Construzioni e Lavori S.A. & SECOL Romania SRL & S.E.C.O.L. S.p.A.
In 2016, following an expertise of the completed works, the constructor was forced by the National Road Company to complete the necessary repairs and to open the road for traffic by year-end.
