The government will not hesitate to take the appropriate measures to protect and support the interests of Romanian investors, Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu said on Wednesday.

“We will not hesitate to take the appropriate measures to protect and support the interests of the Romanian private environment. Romania is heading to a good direction and the prospects are encouraging, but we have to make sure that we maintain the same pace and that the economy functions on strong, competitive and sustainable bases. Therefore, the government strategy is that, through the decision, it will succeed to move the drivers from consumption to those areas that ensure productivity growth and encourage the creation of new jobs, and at the moment the first priority for the government is to promote investments, especially in terms of infrastructure development,” PM Grindeanu said at the ‘Romanian Capital Forum’, an event dedicated to the dialogue with the Romanian investors.

The prime minister also stressed the need to streamline the procedures needed to absorb European funds.

“We want to simplify the formalities that have to be fulfilled in the process of obtaining the European funds … (…) It is not a requirement coming from the European Commission. These are things invented by us. (…) Clearly said – we no longer want hundreds of thousands of papers to be signed and stamped. European money is very thoroughly checked, and we should only see that this money will reach you (to local investors – our note),” PM Grindeanu said.

The Premier said that the Government should continue reforming Education to provide skilled labour, correlated with the labour market and cut red tape, by eliminating other taxes, besides the 102 already cancelled, as of next year.

“Our interest is for us to be partners, to support you and not to suffocate you with controls and fines,” the prime minister said.
