‘Green’ cars sales up twofold in first five months
In the first five months of the year, Romanians bought 717 new green cars (100% electric and hybrids), up almost twofold (+185%), against the same period in 2016, when 251 units were sold, the Association of Automobile Producers and Importers (APIA) informs.
According to APIA, during January-May 2017, as compared to the first five months of the previous year, the share of ‘green’ cars in total sales was 1.6% in Romania, whereas the electric car sales doubled (+114.3 %), and sales of hybrids increased by 194.6%.
According to the cited source, 169 electric and hybrid cars were sold in May, up by 19.85%, against the previous month, when 141 were sold.
In the top of the most traded 100% electric cars in the first five months of the year, the first place was occupied by Mercedes Benz with 19 units, followed by BMW (16), Audi (8), Volkswagen and Volvo (4 units ), Porsche (3) and Renault (1).
Also, most hybrid cars sold in Romania during January-May 2017 were Toyota cars (597 units), followed by Lexus (52), Kia (3) and Land Rover (2).
Official statistics show that last year the number of new electric and hybrid cars sold in Romania was of 1,183 units, up 138% against 2015. Out of this total, 167 are 100% electric cars.
