Industrial output up by 8.2pc in 2017

The industrial output grew by 8.2% as gross series in 2017 against the previous year, due to increases in the three industrial sectors, namely manufacturing (+8.9%), extractive industry (+5.9%) and production and supply electricity and heating, gas, hot water and air conditioning (+1.0%), the National Statistics Institute informs on Monday.

In December 2017, the industrial output declined by 14.1% as compared to the previous month, but increased as series adjusted by number of working days and seasonality by 3.7%. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the industrial production increased both as gross series and as series adjusted by number of working days and seasonality, by 7.9% and 12.2%, respectively.

The decrease in industrial production as gross series was generated by the decline of the manufacturing industry by 16.3%. The production and supply of electricity, heating, gas, hot water and air conditioning and the extractive industry increased by 9% and by 2.5% respectively.

Compared to the same month of the previous year, the industrial production (as gross series) increased by 7.9%, due to the increases in manufacturing (+8.9%) and extractive industry (+5.5%). The production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning has decreased by 0.8%.

The industrial production, adjusted by number of working days and seasonality, increased by 12.2% as a result of increases in manufacturing (+16.6%), extractive industry (+6.1%) and production and supply of electric and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning (+0.2%).
