During January – September 2016, the number of non-residents in collective tourist accommodation was 1.93 million and their expenditure amounted per total RON 4613.2 million, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data.
Thus, the non-resident tourists arrived in Romania spent on average RON 2391.5/person in the first ten months of the year. According to the same data, in Q3, the total number of non-residents in collective tourist accommodation was 836.4 thousand and their expenditure amounted per total RON 1854.8 million.
In the first ten months of the year, as well as in Q3, the main reason of the non-resident tourists’ stay in Romania was: business, attend congresses, conferences, courses, fairs and exhibitions (56.6/53.3percent of the total number of non-resident tourists), their expenditure being 57.3/57 percent of the total expenditure.
The second reason of the non-resident tourists’ stay in Romania was the travels for particular purpose (46.7 percent of the total number of non-resident tourists), out of which the holiday travel being highlighted 63.3 percent).
Of the total business expenditure, the greatest weight is represented by the accommodation expenditure (53.1 percent), the accommodation with breakfast included being particularly preferred (90.7 percent).
Out of the total non-resident tourists arrived in Romania, 50.9 percent had their stay organised by travel agencies and 31.9 percent had organized their stay by themselves. The main means of transportation used by the non-resident tourists arriving in Romania was the plane (71.6 percent of the total number of tourists).
