Nonresident tourists in Romania spent on average RON 2,409 per capita in H1

The number of nonresident tourists accommodated in the first half of 2016 in tourist facilities in Romania was of 1.273 million, with overall spending of RON 3.068 billion, the main purpose of their visits being business, attending congresses, conferences, lectures, fairs and exhibitions, the National Statistics Institute (INS) informs on Monday.

The average spending per capita is thus of RON 2,409.3, the same source informs.

In Q2 the number of nonresident tourists was of 793,000 who spent RON 1.938 billion, i.e. 60.1% of the total.

The second reason to travel to Romania was for private trips – 41.5% of the overall nonresident tourists, of which 71.2% arrived for holidays.

Of the overall spending for business, the main share was for accommodation – 52.8% (90.4% with breakfast included), followed by expenses in restaurants and pubs (17%) and shopping (11.7%). Out of the total shopping expenses, 39.9% were on presents and souvenirs, followed by expenses for food and drinks (36%).

Out of the transport expenses, 48.6% were for car rental.

INS also informs that out of the total nonresident tourists, 49.2% booked their trip with tourism agencies and 34.1% came on their own.

The main means of transportation for tourists was by plane (79.6%), own cars (10.8%), buses (7.8%) and other means (trains, river boats, rented cars, motorcycles) – 1.8%.
