Arrears on loans of over RON 20,000 granted by banks to customers rose by 0.9% in May 2016 against April to RON 30.11 billion equivalent, according to data released by the Central Credit Risk with the central bank on Thursday.
The arrears represented in May 10.88% of total amounts due by customers to the banks.
Out of total arrears 89.87%, RON 27.06 billion, are outstanding loans for over a year, up from RON 26.97 billion in April.
The number of customers with outstanding debts to banks also increased in May as compared to April, from 188,022 to190,715, but remains below the level a year ago when they the number of debtors was of 208,305.
For natural persons, the overdue loans of over RON 20,000 fell in May as compared to April, by RON 50 million to about RON 6.14 billion, from RON 6.19 billion a month ago, and represented 6.15% of the total outstanding debts. In this case, most arrears, 89.9%, were unpaid loans for over a year.
The number of debtors, natural persons, rose in May to 161,226 from 159,334 a month ago, but remains below the level recorded a year ago when the number of debtors was of 178,136.
