Pork – more expensive as of April

As of April we will pay more for pork, according to domestic producers. Fresh meat will be more expensive by about 20%.
Meat products’ prices will increase by up to 12%. Producers say that the price hikes are determined by the increase in prices of raw materials on the international markets. Romania imported last year nearly 200,000 tons of pork, i.e. more than one third of the consumption, digi24.ro informs.
“It is the highest price in the last five years on the pig meat stock market, due to the massive cuts last year. But today (yesterday – our note) the German pig meat stock market registered an increase of 7 eurocents. Perhaps some will migrate to the chicken meat. The chicken has no price changes. The beef has already registered some price changes upwards,” Radu Timiş, chairman Romanian Meat Association, has said.
