Q1 statistics: Exports of food and live animals – EUR 902m, imports of over EUR 1bn

Exports of food and live animals amounted in the first quarter of this year to EUR 902.5 million (RON 4.027 million), up by 7.02% (expressed in euro) against the same period last year, the National Statistics Institute (INS) informs.
In that period, imports amounted to EUR 1.059 billion (RON 4.719 billion), by 11.8% (in euros) higher than in Q1 2014.
The balance of international trade in food and live animals was, during January-March 2015 of EUR 157.2 million (RON 692.7 million).
At the end of March in the food industry worked 157,000 people. The average gross salary was of RON 1,706 and the net salary of RON 1,242.
In Q1 2014 exports of agricultural products to intra and extra EU countries had reached EUR 1.17 billion, up by 38.4% over the same period in 2013, while imports rose by 0.6% to EUR 1.16 billion. In Q1 2014 the trade balance in agricultural products recorded a surplus of EUR EUR 9.4 million, as compared to a deficit of EUR 308.9 million recorded in Q1 2013.
