The Romanian Television Broadcasting Company (SRTV) has designated, by open auction, on July 8, the supplier of electricity for the next 12 months: RCS&RDS, the largest operator of cable TV and fixed internet, which has become player on the electric energy market in December 2014, hotnews.ro informs.
The criterion for awarding the contract was the ‘lowest price’. The TVR starting estimated value of the contract was of over RON 2.7 million, VAT excluded, eventually being awarded to RCS&RDS for over RON 2.24 million, VAT excluded. Five offers were submitted for the auction, according to data released on Tuesday by the Electronic System of Public Procurement (SEAP).
The contract awarding criterion was, as mentioned above, the lowest price for energy with all expenses included both for medium voltage and low voltage.
RCS&RDS, the largest cable TV and fixed internet operator has become a player on the electricity market in December 2014 and in just one year it has won nearly 100 contracts to supply electricity for public institutions. The National Bank of Romania (BNR), the Communications Regulatory Authority (ANCOM), the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the Ministry of Interior (MAI) are among the dozens of institutions that, following auctions which were attended by major players such as E. ON, CEZ, ENEL and Electrica, have chosen to buy electricity from RCS&RDS. One possible explanation? The operator owned by Zoltan Teszari comes, as on the telecom market, with low prices, below the initially estimated minimum.
