Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate down to 3.8% in December

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.8% in December 2018, down by 0.1 percentage points against the previous month (3.9%), according to the National Statistics Institute (INS) figures released on Thursday.

The unemployment rate for men was by 1.3 percentage points higher than for women.

The number of unemployed (aged 15-74) estimated for December 2018 was 350,000, down against the previous month (358,000) and against the same month of the previous year (419,000 people).

By gender, the male unemployment rate exceeded by 1.3 percentage points that of women (the respective figures being 4.3% for men and 3.0% for women).

For adults (25-74 years), the unemployment rate was estimated at 2.9% for December 2018 (3.5% for men and 2.1% for women).

The number of the unemployed aged 25-74 represented 71.4% of the total number of unemployed estimated for December 2018.
