State bonds for the population: Record number of buyers in the first two days since launch

Ministry of Finance has reached a record number of buyers for the state bonds, already nearly triple from last year, just two days after their launch, under Centenar (Centenary) edition name, Finance Ministry announced on Wednesday in a press release.

The results after the first two days of the bonds issue’s launch for the population show a subscription of RON 108.8 million, up by almost 9 percent compared to the total amount initially announced for this offer.

The number of buyers reached yesterday, at the end of the subscription day, to 3,425 individuals, almost three times more than the total recorded last year – 1,236.

Monday, the day when state bonds for the population kicked off for sale, 655 investors subscribed shares worth RON 32.7 million.

„The announced target of RON 100 million will be supplemented by demand. The most important is to reward individuals investors’ confidence in the Romanian state,” Finance Minister Anca Dragu stated.

State bonds launched by the Ministry of Public Finance (MFP) can be purchased during July 11-29, 2016, with the nominal value of RON 100 and a maturity of two years and an interest rate of 2.15 percent per annum.

An interested person is to go to one of the intermediary banks with an ID and may purchase bonds with cash or by bank transfer. Beneficiaries of bonds may be resident or non-resident individuals, aged 18 or over. An individual may buy a maximum of 1,000 bonds. The bonds can be obtained without charge from the four intermediary banks, namely BCR, BRD, Raiffeisen Bank and Banca Transilvania.

I started my way in life with the intention to pursue a teaching career. But, after graduating from the Faculty of Letters – the University of Bucharest in 2004, my first job as a reporter at one of the leading newspapers in Romania changed my perspective. I have specialized in communication and communication campaigns, following the Master's courses at the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies (FJSC), attending a BBC Communications scholarship.
