The Competition Council (CC) has generated over EUR 1 billion of savings for Romanian citizens in 20 years of activity, according to a report by the Academy of Economic Studies (ASE).

The President of the Council, Bogdan Chiriţoiu, stated that since the establishment of this institution, 345 investigations have been conducted, more than half being self-notifications by the competition authority.

The fines applied in these two decades have exceeded EUR 570 million.

The survey by the Academy of Economic Studies assessed the impact of Romanian competition policy on 10 key industries, including banking services, compulsory third party car liability insurance, private pension fund management, fuel distribution and retail trade, rador.ro informs.
