Tourist accommodation capacity up to 353,300 places

Romania’s tourist accommodation capacity increased by 2.8% in the first seven months of this year, as compared to the same period last year, up to 353,300 places according to figures released by the National Statistics Institute (INS) on Monday.

Moreover, on July 31, 2018, Romania had 36 hotels classified as 5 stars and 367 as 4-star hotels, but most of them, 52.1%, are classified as 3-star hotels.

The most significant increase in the number of accommodation places was registered by the agro-tourism guest houses, with an advance of 9.2% in the first seven months of this year against the same period last year. Accommodation places in tourist villas recorded an increase of 8.5% and a smaller increase in the number of accommodation places was registered for hotels (plus 0.9%). Overall, the number of tourist accommodation places increased by 2.8%.

Out of the total of 161,700 existing rooms in the accommodation establishments existing on July 31, 2018 (excluding the rooms in the cottages), 98,400 (60.7%) were in hotels. The number of rooms increased in 2018 by 1,901 in agro-tourism hostels, by 797 in hotels, 605 in tourist villas, 469 in tourist boarding houses, and 169 in hostels.

On the tourist areas, of the total number of places, 91,700 were in Bucharest and the county seat cities, except for Tulcea, 80,300 were in seaside resorts, except for Constanta city, 72,500 in other localities and tourist routes, 65,000 in mountain resorts, 36,200 in spa resorts and 7,600 in the Danube Delta, including the city of Tulcea.
