Unemployment rate up to 4.1% in Q4 2018

The unemployment rate soared to 4.1% in the fourth quarter of 2018, up by 0.2% against the previous quarter, with the highest level for youngsters of 16.3%, the National Statistics Institute (INS) informs on Thursday.

By gender: 4.6% for men and 3.5% for women. By residence: 4.8% in rural areas, 3.6% in urban areas.

The occupancy rate of the population aged 15-64 was of 64.5%, down against the previous quarter by 1.7 percentage points.

The occupancy rate of the younger generation (15-24 years old) was of 23.8%.

Romania’s active population was 8.956 million, of which 8.588 million occupied and 368,000 unemployed.
