NN Group, the international financial services company operating in the local life insurance and private pensions markets, and impact venture fund Rubio Impact Ventures launch the NN Social Innovation Startup Awards competition aimed to boost early-stage tech start-ups that aim to create positive impact in society. The competition takes place in 11 countries in Europe, including Romania, and in Japan, where start-ups focused on equal opportunities and mental and physical well-being can apply by 15 October. Finalists will receive a supporting grant of € 50,000, while the winner will receive a €100,000 supporting grant, along with tailored support and a year-long venture development programme.

The NN Social Innovation Startup Awards offers not only financial support but also access to a broad network of experts, mentors, an investor-readiness programme and a potential investor. The focus is on empowering entrepreneurs in NN markets (Belgium, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Spain, Turkey and Japan) who are developing innovative solutions to complex social challenges. By combining corporate strength and venture capital, NN Group and Rubio are offering complementary expertise to accelerate societal solutions and innovation in this space.

“At NN, we are committed to making a positive impact in society. That’s why we created the NN Social Innovation Fund. Our fund champions early-stage social enterprises that provide solutions for improving people’s financial, physical, and/or mental well-being. By partnering with Rubio Impact Ventures, we’re not only providing financial support but also combining our resources to ensure these start-ups receive the guidance and support they need to maximise their potential and create lasting societal impact”, said Fleur Hudig, Head of Corporate Citizenship at NN Group.

People tech start-ups that focus on equal opportunities, mental and physical well-being can drive systemic change in society, but many of them lack the financial resources and support needed to reach their full potential and make a lasting difference.

Start-ups interested in participating in the NN Social Innovation Startup Awards can apply until 15 October 2024 by filling in an online form. To be eligible, start-ups must focus on advancing equal opportunities, sustainable livelihoods and well-being, operating in areas like EdTech, WorkTech, Accessibility Tech, Diversity and Inclusion, Financial Inclusion or Legal & Housing Access, as well as physical, mental and financial well-being, longevity and sustainable lifestyle.

Shortlisted start-ups will be notified by 5 October and will participate in online interviews as part of the selection process. Three finalists will be selected and invited to pitch in Bilbao, in front of a world-class jury, in an event at Impact Week Europe 2024 between November 27 to 29 and will benefit from a supporting grant to develop further. The winning start-up will also benefit from a one-year custom-built venture growth and mentoring program focused on scaling your business and developing leadership skills.
