OMV Petrom Opens Romania’s Largest EV Charging Hub

OMV Petrom has opened the largest electric vehicle charging hub in Romania on the A1 motorway, at Miercurea Sibiului. The stations have 34 fast charging points in total: 17 in each direction, 16 for cars and 18 for trucks. The charging stations are of high capacity: those for electric vehicles each have a power of 300 kW and allow charging in 15-20 minutes.

The truck charging stations have a capacity of 400 kW and allow charging an electric truck in just 1.5-2 hours. In comparison, stations with a capacity of less than 25 kW require a whole night to complete the charge. The total installed power for vehicle charging is 10 MW (5 MW each way).

“Our 2030 strategy includes the development of the most extensive network of electric charging stations in Romania, as part of our effort to support the decarbonization of transport. The A1 motorway is one of Romania’s main trade routes, part of the pan-European TEN-T corridor,” said Radu Căprău, member of the OMV Petrom management board responsible for Refining and Marketing, quoted in a company statement.

OMV Petrom operates a network of 780 gas stations under the Petrom and OMV brands in Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria and Serbia. The company has developed a network of around 1,000 charging points for electric vehicles in the region. OMV Petrom plans to install over 5,000 charging points by 2030 and become the largest provider of electric mobility services in Romania.
