The oncologic radiotherapy clinic chain Amethyst ended the first three months of the year with revenues of EUR 2.4 million in Romania, a press release informs.

But the business is actually experiencing a cash flow shortage of EUR 1.5 million due to delays in reimbursements of treatment costs by the Health Insurance County Authorities (CJAS).

Despite this situation, the two Amethyst clinics operational in Romania, one in Otopeni and one in Cluj, have kept providing radiotherapy treatment for various forms of cancer, bringing relief to thousands of Romanians so far.

The two clinics are the result of an investment worth EUR 18 million, of which the special radiotherapy equipment was more than EUR 10 million, and provide 161 jobs – of which 92 are highly trained medics in radiotherapy and oncology and medical staff, treating more than 350 patients every month – of whom 200 are new month by month.

“We are using technology younger than the iPhone, if I may say so, which allows millimeter accuracy in treating tumors with minimal side effects. The procedures and the technology we employ are doubled by collateral services aiming at preserving the human dignity of people in distress who enter our clinic, such as psychological counseling, nutritional advice and nicely fitted rooms. We hope one day the health insurance system admits that the people who paid all their lives the contribution must benefit from decent conditions during treatments”, Barbara Werchowiecka-Rusinek, CEO Amethyst Group said.

For 2017, the management of the Amethyst clinics is looking forward for better results amid the continuous improvement of the partnership with the Health Insurance County Authorities, which would allow the shareholders to resume the expansion plans for Romania.

With 6 clinics in Romania, Poland, France and Germany, Amethyst is seeking to expand in the whole Europe, Romania included. The Amethyst clinics are operated by Amethyst Radiotherapy LTD.
