Orange Romania, part of France Telecom group, expanded its 4G coverage in more than 1,300 localities, following the 2016 vote through the Orange 4G Fun Kit app, a press release informs
Thus, Orange 3G and 4G customers chose the counties where the company to prioritize the coverage works.
Following the concentrated efforts in the last quarter of 2016, the most extensive 4G network in Romania is present in 6,723 localities nationwide.
“In counties and areas with high coverage, such as Bucharest and Ilfov, there were carried out densification works. Besides localities in the counties voted by customers, Orange has made additional works to extend the coverage, thereby helping to improve the experience of using 4G services. These network investments provide customers access to Internet services, contributing to the digitalization process and better adoption of the newest technologies, leading to a reduction of the digital divide. Orange currently holds the largest 4G network in Romania, covering 97 percent of the urban population and 81 percent of the total population,” the release reads.
Overall, in 2016, Orange has extended the coverage in 2,200 localities on main roads and motorways that connect Bucharest to seaside and to the west coast of the country.
Moreover, Orange and CFR implemented last year a pilot project through which travelers to Constanta and mountain resorts enjoyed free Wi-Fi at 4G speeds, the statement also notes.
