PayPoint Services’ commitments on Payzone takeover raise questions

The Competition Council submits the commitments of UK payment operator PayPoint Services regarding the takeover of Romanian division of Irish group Payzone to public debates to remove the competition concerns, a press release informs.

“Following the preliminary analysis, the Competition Council found that the transaction raises significant barriers to effective competition and identified the main competition issues, namely the possibility of consolidating a dominant position in the cash collection market,” the release reads.

The PayPoint Services commitments refer mainly to prices and minimum monthly number of transactions that the partner stores have to make.

The observations must be submitted by September 1, 2017, the competition authority points out.
