Soon Bucharest could host a center for dialogue on energy issues. „We should all be concerned about what is happening in our region on energy and in this format we should use all opportunities. I have already mentioned the significant energy projects with Chinese companies,” Prime Minister Victor Ponta said in a statement during Central and Eastern European (CEE) summit held on Tuesday in the Serbian capital of Belgrade, gov.ro informs.
With this occasion, Romanian PM met the Premier of the State Council of People’s Republic of China, Li Keqiang. Ponta said that Romania has “a high energy project”, developed with Chinese partners and infrastructure projects to be implemented. Ponta also stressed that Romania, as member of the EU, is willing to serve as China’s gateway to Europe.
China and six CEE countries agreed to promote cooperation in extensive areas ranging from infrastructure to energy.
In his meeting with Romanian PM Ponta, Li called on the two sides to fast-track their cooperation in nuclear power and thermal power projects and expand cooperation in transportation infrastructure, Xinhua news agency informs. He also said China hopes that Romania and Moldova will start consultations on their high-speed railway project at an early date and conduct cooperation studies with the Chinese side.
Ponta said that his country is willing to enhance cooperation with China in such areas as nuclear power, thermal power, high-speed railway, aviation, agriculture and culture, so as to further promote bilateral relations and CEE-China cooperation.
