Premier Viorica Dăncilă has sent her Control Body to the national carrier Tarom to check, among others, the circumstances in which two Airbus A310 aircraft had been sold abroad in 2018.

The check aims at see if the legal provisions on TAROM organisation has been observed, as well as to probe into the circumstances when two Airbus A310 aircraft had been sold abroad in 2018″, a press release informs.

Tarom announced in the summer of 2018 the sale of two Airbus A310 aircraft to Armenia Airways Aircompany, for which it obtained USD 5.48 million. Werner Wolff, Tarom general manager explained back then that the transaction represents “a strategic decision meant to attract a significant profit for the airline, which comes both from the actual sale of the aircraft and also from cutting maintenance costs”.

According to Tarom, the assets have been put up for sale in February 2018, as the two planes were not operational and they have been in state of conservation since September 2016. Tarom bought Airbus A310  aircraft in December 1992 and they served as commercial planes until the end of 2016.
The two planes, which flew to China and USA during 2000-2004, were considered responsible for the huge losses of the national airline. Former Transports minister back then, Miron Mitrea, decided to withdraw them from the long air flight routes and to use them only in Europe.
