Polish soft drinks producer, close to taking over Bilbor Mineral Water

Noncarbonated soft drinks producer Tymbark, controlled in Romania by Polish group Maspex Wadowice, is interested to take over Bilbor, the mineral water producer, part of the United Romanian Breweries Bereprod (URBB), insolvent since February last year, sources close to the transaction told Profit.ro.

Bilbor is a mineral water brand positioned in the premium segment, with a market value that includes brand, license, plant, equipment and stocks of EUR 5.3 million. In the case of a forced sale because of bankruptcy or liquidation, the brand value was estimated at EUR 3.45 million.

According to the quoted sources, the deal is in the analysis phase of the files. URBB representatives confirmed the information.

“The main objective of our company in Romania, is to strengthen the position held on the markets we operate, not excluding the development on other consumer markets too,” came up the Tymbark’s answer.

This would be the second major purchase of Tymbark in Romania over a year after when, in August 2015, the noncarbonated soft drinks producer took over Rio Bucovina, one of the important players on the domestic bottled water market.

Maspex Group entered the Romanian market in 1996 and currently is one of the largest Polish investors in Romania. Among the leading brands in Romania owned by Maspex are: Tedi, Tymbark, La Festa, Ekland, Coffeeta and Salatini.

I started my way in life with the intention to pursue a teaching career. But, after graduating from the Faculty of Letters – the University of Bucharest in 2004, my first job as a reporter at one of the leading newspapers in Romania changed my perspective.
