Porsche opens a software engineering center in Cluj-Napoca

Germany’s Porsche Engineering Group GmbH founded a branch in Romania, a software development center in Cluj city, in its goal to continue to expand its expertise in the field of digitalization, a press release informs.

Weissach-based engineering services provider has established Porsche Engineering Romania SRL in the university town of Cluj-Napoca, underscoring the increasing importance of software development in the automotive industry.

“With the new site in Cluj, Porsche customer development is further sharpening its focus on the car of the future,” Malte Radmann, Managing Director of Porsche Engineering says, adding: “Cluj will help us to push the digitalization of the car forward.”

Porsche representatives appreciate that Romania and the university town of Cluj-Napoca are among the most innovative regions in Europe when it comes to software development. Many IT companies originated here and there is a lively start-up scene.

“For Porsche Engineering this represents an ideal breeding ground for innovative automotive software development,” the release reads.

According to Dirk Lappe, Technical Director of Porsche Engineering, the workforce at the Romanian location is slated to increase to 25 employees by the end of the year. “For this, we need first-class software engineers such as those we can find in Cluj,” Lappe says.

With the new subsidiary, the Weissach-based engineering services provider complements the skills at its other locations in the southern German city of Bietigheim-Bissingen, Prague, Shanghai and Nardò in southern Italy.

Porsche Engineering Group is a premium engineering services provider for car manufacturers, the automotive parts industry and other sectors.
