As of the end of October 2023, Romania recorded a total of 101,605 prosumers with a combined installed capacity of 1,298 MW, according to the latest data released by the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE). Ilfov, Timiș, and Arad lead in the number of prosumers, indicating that entry into this group requires significant financial resources and, secondly, access to an area with substantial solar potential.
In Ilfov County, as of the end of October, there were a total of 8,128 prosumers with a combined installed capacity of 103.23 MW. It is the only county where the sum of installed capacities exceeds 100 MW.
The areas surrounding the capital are affluent, with residents owning large houses suitable for the installation of photovoltaic panels.
Following Ilfov, Timiș and Arad counties rank next, boasting a high solar potential. Timiș has 5,674 prosumers with a total capacity of 74.34 MW, while Arad has 4,024 prosumers with a combined capacity of 45.99 MW.
The ranking continues with Dolj, Bucharest, Argeș, Bihor, Constanța, Suceava, and Mureș, each having panels with a total capacity exceeding 40 MW.
At the bottom of the table are Tulcea County (1,131 prosumers – 13.63 MW), Botoșani (13.63 MW), Covasna (13.23 MW), and Caraș-Severin (976 prosumers – 11.19 MW).
Natural persons have solar panels with an average power of 5.6 kW per place of consumption, and legal persons, 55-56 kW per place of consumption.
Representatives of ANRE estimated that in the last two months of 2023, the capacity would increase to 1,500 MW. ANRE expects this trend to continue next year, with the installation of an additional 1,000 MW of photovoltaic panels.
