Swedish IKEA has recorded in Romania in 2014/2015 the highest sales growth since the launching of its first store here, up by 12.37 percent compared to 2013/2014, while sales reached RON 424, 47 million, no VAT, the world’s largest furniture retailer announced on Thursday.
On this occasion, Stefan Vanoverbeke, the new IKEA CEO for South East Europe – Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia – as of October 1, revealed in his first press conference held in Bucharest that the new store on Pallady Boulevard will be larger than the one in Baneasa. More than that, “in the long term, Romania could have nine IKEA stores,” Vanoverbeke said.
8 percent of IKEA sales were generated from online. Over 35,000 orders were made by customers in Bucharest, Cluj, Timisoara and Iasi. From online sales, 76 percent represents furniture products and 24 percent – accessories and decorations.
3,248,974 people visited the store and over 14 million products were sold.
At the same time, IKEA Food Division recorded a sales increase of 9.63 percent over the previous year, accounting for 8 percent of IKEA ’s total sales. The Swedes managed to sell 3.5 million hot dogs at a price of RON 1.
