French auto manufacturer Renault unveiled its new supermini crossover called Kwid on Wednesday, which is already available on Indian market.

The vehicle is an A-segment hatchback which will likely be sold in international markets under the Dacia brand as well, just like the Duster, French media show, quoted by ziare.com. Renault says the Kwid features SUV styling and construction and combines “generous cabin space with unprecedented features for its segment.”

Currently there are no plans to offer the Kwid in Europe, though a similar model could make an appearance in British showrooms under Renault’s Dacia budget brand, which currently offers the UK’s cheapest new car, the Sandero hatchback.

“With Kwid, Renault continues to pursue its strategy of accessible mobility for all, to step up its international growth. Using a new Renault-Nissan Alliance platform and following the trail blazed by the Duster, the Kwid will enable Renault to continue its expansion and address the needs of customers who want a vehicle that is stylish, robust and easy to use,” Carlos Ghosn, CEO of the Renault Group, said.

Built in India, the Renault KWID will go on sale before the end of the year with a base price of about 300,000 rupees, a sum that converts to approximately USD 4,700. Rumors indicate the European special KWID will make its global debut next year at the Geneva Motor Show and it will reportedly carry a base price of about EUR 5,000, a sum that converts to roughly.

The Kwid features SUV characteristics such as the short front and rear overhangs and the high ground clearance (180mm).

The car is 3,68 meters long and 1.58 meters wide, making it ideal for use in the city, a couple of inches longer and narrower than a Fiat 500.

The structured grille design reminds of the Duster, while the headlights incorporate Renault’s new lighting signature including a C-shaped chrome trim. From the side, the car looks similar to the Sandero, while the rear has some Renault Captur influences.

Inside, the Kwid’s dashboard features digital instruments, chrome air vent surrounds and a centrally-positioned Media-Nav navigation/multimedia system with a 7-inch touchscreen display and Bluetooth connectivity. Renault says there’s plenty of room for five passengers and promises a very spacious boot with “best-in-class load capacity.”
