Guillaume Faury, CEO Airbus Helicopters, the company that is implementing an investment in an assembly facility of Airbus H215 helicopters on IAR Ghimbav platform (Braşov County), says that the unit will serve the global market.

“We chose Romania because we believe and we’re still convinced that this is the best place for investment in the field. We have a long relationship with Romania when we had to take the decision (of investment ed. note) we noticed that the skills, know-how and the people of Romania, but also the partnership that we had at that time with IAR, were factors that have created an enabling environment to continue to invest,” Guillaume Faury stated on Friday at Marignane Development Centre, after talks with Luca Niculescu, Romania’s ambassador to France, and Costin Borc, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, capital.ro informs.

Costin Borc paid an official visit to France during June 16 -18, having talks with Airbus representatives.

“I want Romania to be an aeronautical pole on the aircraft segment too, not just on the helicopters,” Costin Borc said.

Airbus will employ about 350 people for H215 helicopter assembly line when the unit will reach the maximum capacity, a level that will reached in 2019. This level involves assembling 15-20 helicopters.

The price of an Airbus H215 helicopter with minimum facilities is EUR 13 million and can exceed this level by optionals.

“I don’t know who will be the first customer, but my desire is that the first buyer to be from Romania,” Serge Durand, general manager of Airbus Helicopters Romania, said, adding: “We currently have the first group of Romanian 23 employees who are in training at the plant in Marignane and we invest more in preparing people here for 11 months.” The unit in Marignane has 8,000 employees.

At the same time, the agenda of the Romanian official’s visit to France also included a meeting with Louis Aloccio, vice-president of the Marseille – Provence Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and with Jean-Claude Gaudin, Vice-President of the French Senate, Bouches-du-Rhône Senator and Marseille mayor.

The sides emphasized the importance of France as a strategic, commercial and investment partner of Romania, given that despite the economic crisis, Romania – France trade exchanges have seen an upward trend over the past 11 years, reaching EUR 7.23 billion in 2015. Thus, France ranks 4th among Romania’s trading partners. |There are 8,441 companies with French capital in Romania, posting investments of EUR 2.4 billion.
