33 percent of the total number of agricultural holdings at the European Union level belong to Romania, President of the National Institute of Statistics (INS), Tudorel Andrei stated.
According to him, only Poland has a share of more than 10 percent, 13.2 respectively.
Regarding the development regions, the top positions in terms of agricultural holdings number are held by North-East and South Muntenia (21.2 percent, respectively 20 percent), while in terms of utilised agricultural area, South Muntenia (16.9 percent) and South-East (16.5 percent) have come into the foreground in 2016.
However, in terms of the area used in agriculture, Romania is behind other countries – 7.5 percent, the first being France – 15.9 percent, Spain – 13.3 percent, Great Britain – 9, 9 percent, Germany – 9.6 percent and Poland – 8.3 percent.
According to INS data, in 2016 the number of agricultural holdings was 3422 thousands, 5.7 percent less compared to the number resulting from the Farm Structure Survey 2103, respectively 11.3 percent less compared to the General Agricultural Census 2010.
The average utilised agricultural area per agricultural holding in 2016 was 3.65 ha, compared to 3.60 ha in 2013.
