The European Commission could initiate an infringement procedure against Romania, as the amendments to the energy law in the Parliament are susceptible that would affect the competition in the market, Corina Popescu, State Secretary in the Ministry of Energy said, agerpres.ro informs.
“We don’t want to get here, but it’s Parliament’s decision,” she pointed out.
The Chamber of Deputies adopted on Monday, October 10, the review of the law on amending and supplementing the law on electricity and natural gas no.123 / 2012 at President Iohannis request, according to press release.
According to Bogdan Chiritoiu, President of the Competition Council, the law approved by Parliament raises issues on subsidizing the expensive energy, but also on a possible state aid, this being also indicated by the European Commission. More precisely, the changes would favor the energy producers with higher costs, such as those based on coal or Oltenia and Hunedoara energy complexes.
On the other hand, Iulian Iancu, president of the Committee for Industries and Services in the Chamber of Deputies, stated this July, that the amendments to the energy law does not favor the more expensive coal producers, but correct the discriminatory treatment at which they were subjected so far.
